Credit Where It's Due...

Oct
02

There's no point in arguing with some of the posts running down this page.

For some, no amount of proof will do.

But as far as I'm concerned, the last eight years -- fraught as they were with tragedies, political battles, and all kinds of frustration -- were infinitely better than the eight preceding them. And this President, without any question in my mind, will go down in history as one of the best to hold the office.

Again, those who disagree, will disagree. They'll be convinced by no evidence to the contrary.

But the facts are what they are -- we are, in so many ways, infinitely better off than we were.

Someone on the Right snidely asked, awhile back, "How's that Hopey-Changey thing working out for you now?"

Closer as we are to the end of President Obama's tenure, my answer is easy: "Pretty damn good. Thanks for asking."

To the Obama's, many thanks for everything. And best wishes going forward.

Health Care

Jul
23

Dear Mr President,

Thank you so much for the start you have made on Health Care in America. It was so needed and even though you have not accomplished all you wanted, I know you still have more to do before you leave office. I would like to encourage you to continue working toward better medicine and health care for everyone after you leave office. There needs to be a leader and you have always been so passionate about this cause.

I am optimistic that one day again medicine and health care with be about the wellness of people rather then dollars. It aggravates me so much when I see insurance companies denying payment on the medicine that works and paying for the pharmaceuticals that are only are a band-aid and often cause more symptoms for them to sell more pharmaceuticals to that patient.

I have finally become symptomatic enough to be considered hypothyroidism. Actually that is false, I have been severely symptomatic for the past ten years, with each year gradually getting worse and worse, till I was even unable to work. My tests have just shown the doctor that I DO have a problem and I am finally getting treated. The issue I have is that my thyroid-ism is only a symptom of a bigger cause and I would love to start backtracking to get to the real issue. This will never happen because insurance will never cover it. I would also love to try the more natural medication but at present am already paying for bi-identical hormones as the "suggested" medication from my last doctor who refused to re-evaluated did not help me. Hence the angst.

Doctors are smart people. Why are they letting this happen? They are still going to get their money or is everything they earned based on them selling pharmaceuticals now. Should they be re-classed as sales persons rather then healers? I would like to say the fact that nurses are now treating patients that it would make it better but they are also being taught the same "only use drugs" bull**** training. It is time for the person and symptoms to be treated not tests based only on sick people results.

Maybe you have better plans for your future and no doubt you deserve anything you choose to do. I wrote on whim for a better future. I'm not even an american .. I just have to survive here if I wish to be with the man I love. The country needs a warrior and a teacher. Someone to start the real movement to make it happen. I'm sure that person will present themselves if enough people start to ask for it.

Anyways .. thank you for your time and your service.

Many Regards
Jade

President Obama,

I personally feel it is in very poor form to sue a website over your campaign logo. This site could actually help you get elected by spreading your message and your logo. I really hope this is something that can be worked out without a lawsuit.

Thank you.

You let me down

Oct
27

President Obama,

I doubt you will read this. I voted for you in the last election. I thought that maybe you'd try to make a change. You let me down. You flip flopped on issues and showed you were nothing more than an average politician. I don't affiliate myself with a party because both parties suck. However, I've always voted democrat. I'm done with that. My vote is for Ron Paul. He dosen't flip flop on the issues. We the people demand that you legalize marijuana. I  use it for medical reasons. Ever since I started using it, I have stopped taking the pain pills that I am prescribed. However, the point is, whether it has a medicinal value or not, I can use it. The people are in charge. You might as well have voted for Ron Paul yourself because you're the one that bitched out. I and a number of people I know are done with the bull.

Please save my home

Oct
25

October 25, 2011

Dear Mr. President;

I would like to introduce myself to you; I am a 51 year old, female, currently living in Hudson, North Carolina. I have been

a long time, diehard republican who voted for you because I believed in you. I believe in what you stand for and all your

hopes and dreams for this country.

Unfortunately, in August of 2010, I lost my job through no fault of my own and have been unemployed since. Also, I am newly divorced and have no other income at this time.

I have rheumatoid arthritis as well as lupus and other ailements associated with both. I have not been to a doctor in over a year and am not on any of my prescribed medicines because I cannot afford to see a doctor or pay for my prescriptions.

I have been denied unemployment, medicaid, welfare, disability and any other assistance available. I do

however, receive food stamps.

Currently I have exhausted all savings, IRA funds, as well as pawned anything of value.

Last Friday, October 21 st I received a call from my Mortgage- Chase Home finance, that I was denied a

mortgage modification and that they are requesting a "short sale" or to start foreclosure proceedings.

Mr. President, I purchased my home 6 years ago and put over 70,000 of inheritence into my home to avoid a large mortgage payment. I hoped to leave my home to my children as I have nothing else left

from my parents. I have an FHA mortgage and they have told me that I need at least l3,000 to make my

mortgage current in order to reapply for a modification.

I have been actively looking for work everyday, I have agencies looking as well as friends and family.

I cannot pay what I do not have but am willing to work with my mortgage company anyway possible.

In the interim of this year, I have met someone who now lives with me and is willing to help me with bills

but this enormous deficit is too much. I have requested that they modify my loan and put the deficit at the

end of the loan and am told that they cannot do that.

Please Mr. President, don't let them take my home. This is all I have. In this great country of ours I do not

see how this is happening. I have worked all my life. I have paid my bills all along until this terrible tragedy happened. Here in North Carolina there is limited available work and I cannot afford to move to a different state.

I have been asked by friends, " why don't you just move to Canada." i tell people because I am an

American and this is my home!

This experience has been very humbling as I come from a fairly affluent upbringing. My former husband also was fairly well off. I have now been on food pantry lines, begging assistance to pay my power bill and gone to bed hungry, scared and hopeless.

Please, I believe in you and what you are trying to do for this country. If there is anything you can do to help please do so.

Respectfully,

Amelia Peckne

Change and Hope?

Oct

Dear Mr. Obama, I am not sure if you've seen, this but feel that you need to. Your country is in dire need of your help. We do not care about trying to "get along" with Republicans. We care about our families, our health, our basic lives. You are in a position to actually do something about this. No more bailing out the wealthy. Help the 99%. That other 1% doesn't need your help. We do. We had faith in you. We need the change you promised. Don't let us down. Your re-election won't matter if there is nobody left to vote for you.

What is real - changing the world

Oct
01
Dear Barrack Obama, You cant begin to understand how thankful i am to have you here as our president. I am writing this in order to hopefully have some of my thoughts heard. Though i know you not, i do know, through your disposition and calm attitude, that you value progress over achievement. As do I. Though to you I would seem to be just another high school student in a sea of over-achieving honors students who believe they are to be the next great leaders of America; alas, i stand out like a sore thumb. I will graduate as a senior this year in all AP classes... and yet what does that say about me... it says that at one point in my life i was motivated by fear... that the society tricked me into working hard for nothing so that i may have a good job and an early retirement. Yet now i see clearer every day, understand more, and dream of better realities. It isn't school that is opening my eyes.. it isn't ideological thought.. it isn't routine.. it is the lack therefore of. I have been socially conditioned by my school, my routine, and my society, to accept a limited perspective of reality rooted in fear, to value achievement over progress and perfection, and to be motivated by fear rather than love. But today and everyday hereafter i say no more. Let us not dilly dally any longer Mr president, i know you understand what is coming. The material vibrations of this world have interfered with the eternal, universal vibrations of love that will lead us to a better reality. To one infinite dream of reality. My teachers, classmates, and most of the world is blinded by these material vibrations that bring fear, hate, mistrust, devotion, idealism, and war. When you finally distance yourself from all of this, when you get out into nature, all you can resonate with is love.. yet in this classroom I'm sitting in on a Saturday morning during a 4 hour detention is only making me blind too. Mr president i need your help to change this world and open the hearts of the people. The very system that we have created to instill peace is creating war. The very party systems our nations founders warned against run rampant. How many people have killed in the name of god? when Jesus Christs very teaching told us to make love not war. This entire world is a giant contradiction. Let us realize this and work to change this. Yet still, greed runs rampant, and people who speak of morality only wish to take our freedom. Trust yourself, have confidence that you have all the tools to make the right decisions in life, and resonate with the higher frequency vibrations that are coming in through the cosmos. A change in human consciousness is coming. It starts with those who are awake, and spreads like love into those who are still slumbering. It starts when you open your heart to whats good around you, and then we all begin to work in synchronicity to progress into what we will become. If there's anything i can urge you to do, it is to do nothing. More government is the problem not the solution. As humans we cant possibly create order through idealism. The universe has a natural order to it and we must listen to what it is saying. Education should serve me; i don't serve it. Fear should serve me; i don't serve it. Tradition should serve me; i dont serve it. All of these things are misunderstood.. everything has a purpose, yet when education is holding you back from your true potential, one must realize what is truly important... think on this... i will be sending a letter to you this next week.. Thank you for taking the time to hear my thoughts on everything. I will soon graduate high school and begin my life long journey to spread seeds of love, peace, and harmony one person at a time, to explore the world through myself and my creative pursuits, and to understand how i can better assist us all in our awakening to the eternal nature of our soul. sincerely Adam

Time for "Common Sense"

Aug
15
Mr Obama: At what point does any person involved in this malfunctioning political machine finally realize that it's time to "Think Outside The Box".....For Real! President Obama, why don't you reach out to the general public (Democrat, Republican and Independent), those with ideas founded on common sense...No Hate....No Blame....No Bias....No Divisive Conversation. Ask nationwide and filter the responses quickly to find a "Diverse" Political View, made of average (non-political) Americans that have some of the best ideas that could be applied to make great changes which we desperately need before the end of your first term. I am a Conservative, but I think you are the President who would even consider such a radical approach. Filter through these ideas and form a diverse group that will work with your office and collaborate to develop a few dozen ideas that they feel will help make the necessary common sense changes to save this Nation from further decline. Allow"Us" the American People" to become more involved in helping to set the political direction for America, with your office as the Senior Leadership for the group to help direct them in fine-tuning their ideas and getting them into place. This can't harm anything, and will most certainly help. Most importantly you will get a flood of fresh new ideas and a sense of involvement that most US Citizens can no longer feel. I'm not saying I should be chosen over others that might have even better ideas, but for those you choose (should you have interest in this program), please be certain you include equally all political points of view (while being certain to leave the radical idealists off the list. I just ask that you be the first President to "Reach Out" to the Average American and get them involved, making them part of your team to "Save America". Best Regards; P. Owen

what happened?

Aug

President Obama, Why didn't you stand up for us? What kind of "change" is this I'm supposed to be seeing because really... I'm seriously disappointed at your performance lately and why people like me with college educations who live pay check to pay check working several jobs, and can't afford to pay back my school loans, while my husband works as a teacher with below a living wage! Why are you allowing such deep cuts to all of us, when people who are called "job creators" (maybe for outsourcing to other countries because they arn't creating jobs here!) I was just so excited for once about our president. Then I watched you FOLD over EVERYTHING. And watched the Democratic party crumble in front of LUNATICS who want to cut EVERY HUMAN SERVICE That they can. It makes me SICK. (literally because I've been living a decade without health insurance.) Please start standing up for us. - Loosing Hope in any sort of Change.

Americans who has sold their souls to the devil.

Aug
03
Dear President Obama, It is hard to believe that in the twenty-first century in America that we have to sit and listen to the nonsense of idiots whose main goal is to have the leader of our great nation fail. They have made a deal with the devil at the cost of Americans. That deal was their souls. When American saw this fresh new face of a man named Barack Obama, we stopped and looked. When you opened your mouth and spoke, speaking of HOPE, TOGETHERNESS, and CHANGE, we listened. It was what we had been waiting for. You energized us and filled our hearts and souls with hope and reasons to believe again that someone had us in his heart and mind. Instead of letting you lead, you had to fight for the everyday battles that would normally run itself. We knew that some were looming in the dark rooms and corners of the nation looking for the devil. They didn't have to look far he was already in them. Sold their souls and signed the contract at the expensive of the American people. But, we as true Americans know they will only enjoy it for awhile. Our God is a mighty God and he will put people like yourself in places to lead his people out of hell holes that the devil's advocates has put us in. Our enemies are not abroad at this time, they are among us. They are our worst enemies , creating crisis after crisis to destroy you. We know that it is not because you are not capable but because leader of America is Black. We can't change history but we can change the present and look forward to the future. Don't give up, keep moving forward. Mary Woods Elton, Louisiana

How long before we see some light at the end of the tunnel?

Aug
02
Dear President, I voted for you and your promise of change. I am glad i did and would again .The question I have is how long do we have to wait ? We watch our home values drop below what our actual mortgages are. Our 401k plans are still not back to their high point of several years ago. Gas prices are once again near their high. I am one of the fortunate ones because I have a job and even though we struggle to keep it together. We can do it , but for how much longer ? All we hear is negative news. We are are positive people and can find positive signs but non that help our check book . Its becoming very frustrating to say the least.

The unfair change.

Apr

Mr. President I have a great family they never do anything wrong, yet we always seem to suffer. No matter how much my mother tries to provide, however many jobs she or my father tries to get, we never seem to come out on top with some breathing room. Tax season kills us, we ration our money and food. My brother just went away to college, now he can't come back home because there's not enough money to go around. You promised us change, that's a difficult promise to make but we believed you could do it. I might be missing my prom get a job and provide some more income for my family, because I don't want to see my mother cry again because the government is taking her paycheck. With out America's citizens, there is no America. Bad things shouldn't happen to good people.

Political Parties Have Forgotten

Feb
25
Dear Mr. President, I am very tired of how both political parties are behaving. They are acting like children! They have forgotten WHY the American government was created. They have forgotten WHO they are representing....the American Public, not themselves, not their special interests. They have forgotten that they are to be serving the American public, not foreign countries, or people here illeagally. They have forgotten the many lives lost to allow us to have our American government. They have forgotten how to be respectful, even if you disagree, to listen to someone else and consider what they are saying before speaking. They have forgotten common decency, to be kind to one another, to help one another. How can we expect our country, especially our youth to behave in these forgotten ways, when all they see from our government is the bad behavior? How can we expect foreign countries to treat us with respect and common decency, when we are not even treating each other this way? Maybe since they want to act like children, they should be treated like children. Maybe they should be sent back to school, the schools they are cutting funding from. Maybe they should have to relearn American History. Maybe the need to be reminded of WHY they are in office, HOW they got to be in office. Maybe they need to go to team building classes, so they can learn to work together as a team. Maybe they need to be grounded from their perks of government cars, extra privelages etc.... until they can behave like they deserve them. Maybe they need to be reminded, if you leave work, you don't get paid. If you can't do your job, you will be replaced. Unfortunetly, I think our government has forgotten history, and are doomed to repeat it, over and over. Unfortunetly, we the American People, will suffer from it. We can not effect change like you want until our government can CHANGE their behavior. I hope this letter is read and pondered. I hope this letter can inspire CHANGE in what is going on in my country. This was once a great country that everyone wanted to come to. Soon, it will be no different than many of the countries needing aide and support from us. But who will be there to bail us out..... Sincerly, Mrs. Angi Toth

My President:  So much has been said about the economy, housing bubble, and the plight that now faces our country.  I will not dwell on that. I write to give you courage, to say well done, and to thank you for not letting up despite so much critisism and finger pointing.  You have done well..... don't give up! It must be tough to wake up in the morning and wonder what more you could possibly  do to make rour current economic situation right.  It must be worrisome when you find yourself at a loss because you cant please everyone.  Know that those who care....those who mind about the welfare of this country....have taken note of your work.  I dont care what pundits say.....the writing is on the wall....you are a second term president. You have done America proud.  In the most critical and daunting situation, you have given America hope. Dont look back, dont second guess yourself.....you are doing a good job, running a good race, and fighting a good fight. YES FOR CHANGE!

Jan

Mr. President: First of all, thank you Mr President for taking the time either you or any of your friends, working close to you..(because i know if somebody is working close to you got to be one of your friends)...of reading this letter. It won't take long. I think as President of the USA you have been doing an excellent job. Please Mr. President do not worry too much about the problems Americans are facing right now...and i know anybody that reads this letter would ask themselves 'how da heck not to worry'...:)..lol. Well, let me say something:"'( and I know it could be argue, ") During the long history of the USA, it has been demonstrated that USA will be good, if the image of the President of the USA is view as "good" around the other countries in the world..Believe me (The US president could be consider the most powerful person in the world...but at the same time be consider the 'most wicked person in the world', as I have perceived it in the past..Thanks to President Bush Jr, who destroyed years of Diplomacy with other countries, trying to demonstrated that the USA still the 'greatest country in the world',which I know still it's, but some other people around the world have forgot...) the USA always do good. Every time the President is doing an interview, or public speeching, he needs to realize that he's making History just by being the first "African American President" of the USA,( "If Martin Luther King Jr. would have seen Barack Obama in one of his speeches, or at least some portion of what now: "African Americans are..".He would have had cried.")Americans need to stop the 'nostalgia' for the past America. The America of the time of the 'Grand Father' or 'Band of Brothers' have past...We are Living in 2011, (come on! even the Mayas who invented 'The Calendar' with all the months, days, zodiac signs, and positions of the orbits or planets around the universe near us, really believed of the 'world ending in 2012 (lol)..we as humans know that this is a deception of the history of the world by the Mayans...)But it's time to star looking up and around us, specially looking down (which now days it looks difficult for the new generation) for all humans spread in this beautiful planet. The respect for other humans (inclusive related genetic with us by DNA).I wish God will take a look of 'the world' His creation, and see what it has become: "Adultery, rapes, suicides, homicides, people going 'nuts' and shooting or blowing innocent people for the pleasure of it, or because of a religion, etc.) have been reducing with the past of the years. Remember how other Presidents have acted during different times in history:" Abraham Lincon, JFK, Ronald Regan, Clinton and now you Mr. President"...they have change not only the way the world sees United States, but the way they look at their leadership...so I, as a citizen of the  US in my heart, want to let you know that more than 50% of the population of USA believe on you, and more that 70% of the population around the world believe you can change the ways of the new era. NOTHING WORKS! Socialism, Capitalism, Communism, etc. Everything has to change with the pass of the time, that's what a great philosopher said long time ago" Not the same water pass through the same place in a river more than once"...?...Communism is not the same communism that existed 40 years ago; same as socialism; Imperialism; Capitalism, etc...The same way everything changes, the human mind, laws, and other activities custom in past times, have to change. Me...as a simple human being, recognizes the excellent job you are doing, and just wanted to let you know that you have gained my respect, because i know you are not fake but real. A simple man trying to change the world...Hope God remembers us!!!!   Thank You   Sincerely: Hector Ocampo       Wilmington,DE USA

No help from Bank of America

Jul
11
July 11, 2010                    Subject: Bank of America Loan Number 871271395 This mail is with regarding to our continuous effort to obtain our mortgage status of ongoing “modification process” through Bank of America procedure. As per president Obama’s initiative back to 2009 and continuous effort in updated last month of 2010, resolution stated as followed “The Obama Administration’s Making Home Affordable Program includes opportunities to modify or refinance your mortgage to make your monthly payments more affordable. “If lenders and homebuyers work together, and the lender agrees to offer rates that the borrower can afford, we’ll make up part of the gap between what the old payments were and what the new payments will be. And under this plan, lenders who participate will be required to reduce those payments to no more than 31 percent of a borrower’s income. ” Since we applied for this program back in March of this year, we haven’t seen any positive respond from the Bank of America. In fact, we were faced new situation where we could be a subject for foreclosure, even we followed the steps through never-ended process. We  have contacted with other friends, who are in the same situation, complain about the way how that process is continuously unresolved through BOA, however other banks like Chase was willing to give an option to the barrowers on lowering percentage or  a portion of payments, based on actual home and property value. We are wondering what it would be the overcome decision from Bank of America, because our loan status hasn’t been modified as per above and because of to complicated processing conditions, we returned for time being to the original payment schedule. Our hope is related to our president housing modifications plan with lenders and banks to react promptly and understand that in a very difficult economy, they might be a “key factor” for recovery from recent recession or subject of getting in “double deep depression” Sincerely, Arek & Yumi Stefaniak

Dear Mister President I am fully disgusted with the route our country is traveling. I do not see any improvement pertaining to the way that our lawmakers legislate now or before you took office. They certainly do not have the general welfare or fairness for the populous of the country in their decisions or lack of decisions which ever the case may be as they navigate our ship through Congress. The ship belongs to the populous, the people, not to you or our lawmakers. Your job and their job is to see that fairness and a reasonable way of life for the majority of the people of the country is achieved. What I see is special interests getting the big piece of the pie and the small people, as the populous is referred to by BP, receiving the crumbs if any crumbs are allowed by greedy lawmakers and even more gluttonous special interests. We have close to three million men and women locked up in this country. The reason given is because we are a nation of laws. You can add the total monetary value of all crimes of the convicts incarcerated today and you will not come close to the figure of the robbery of money from the people by insurance companies, bankers and oil companies who have stolen from the hard working people of this once great country. Yes I say once. We are still the greatest society in the world, however we are on a crash course to a disaster of some sort because of the greed of money instead of common sense and decency. There should be no reason why we are not number one in medicine, education, technology and human rights. Can you truthfully say that we are number one in any of these categories? What a shame and waste of resources. The people that should be locked up are the ones that perpetrate or make our laws for their own personal gain at the expense of the people. The list is way to long to name, but, I am sure that you have a pretty good idea who those people happen to be. Could you please enlighten me why Attorney General Eric Holder has not prosecuted anyone from the banking fiasco or any lawmakers for their shenanigans from the time you took office. There are plenty of laws broken by them every day. I guess if you have money or are prominent you do not go to jail in the United States of America. Almost all of the three million men and women in jail are poor or of minority decent or both. I am not talking about violent criminals they are where they belong. I am talking about the injustice thrown upon the poor people of this great country. We have immigration laws but they are not enforced. If you are not going to enforce them or any other law then why not remove them from the books. Why do we not crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants? You will put someone in jail for stealing from a 7-11, smoking pot or doing other drugs even Martha Stewart for lying. If you locked everyone up in Washington who has lied under oath that would be a step in the right direction. Also for being drunk in public or protesting for their rights could very easily land them in jail. You of all people should know the importance of upholding our laws and that means all of our laws not just the ones that are convenient. They are on the books because our government put them there. If we are to be law abiding citizens they must be enforced or remove from the books. Mr. President I did not vote for you but after you were elected I supported you. It seemed to me that you had some pretty good ideas. As time goes on I am beginning to have second thoughts. I know that you were dealt a pretty bad hand when you took over the reins. But at some time you need to start righting the wrongs not to put band aids on them. Health Care is important and yes you got a bill passed but it doesn't really change the climate of the industry or solve many of the problems and will most likely create more problems than it solves. The banking community is on a roll and the bill passed last night is a total joke there are very few provisions for the people and the majority of the bill will allow the hoggish bankers to continue business as usual. The wars, we need to get out, there has to be a better way to keep terrorism in-check. Not one United States soldier, air person, navy or Marine death is justifiable under the conditions that now exists in the Middle East. Why do people who have greed and lust for power believe that they can show the behavior they have shown in the last ten or so years and get away with such behavior? Because we allow them to keep doing so. I thought you were going to stop them. Are you? Respectfully Gary Bruce Dutton 1201 US HWY 1 Suite 42 North Palm Beach, FL 33408 410-322-9972

Pre-Existing denial's from Health Insurance Carriers

Jun
20

Mr. President,  First and foremost, I would like to thank you for your courage and inspiration you have given to myself and my family.   I find myself writing to you regarding the healthcare no pre-existing for denial thing... I am a 38 year old woman with 4 beautiful daughters.  I have ALWAYS had health insurance, until my husband and I divorced 3 years ago.  also, I have been diagnosed bi-polar manic with ADHD since I was in my early 20's.  Over the last 3 years of my "no insurance" life, I have continued to see my local county mental health clinic, and stayed on my meds out of my pocket.  Fast forwar to April, 2010, my ex-husband and I reconcilled our relationship and our famiily... and found a new home to move into together.  A week before we moved in, I found a lump in my breast.  Three weeks after moving into our new home, I found a lump in my other breast as well.  I applied to two different companies, BCBS, and through Farm Bureau... I have NOT been or talked to a Dr. yet because specifically I am terrified of the pre-existing thing... apparantly that was for goosd cause... I got a denial from BCBS stating specifically in black & white I am denied because of my bipolar and adhd diagnosis, and just recieved a duplicate denial letter from farm bureau for the same reasons.   I recently posted this as my status on my facebook page, This is prob not fb appropriate, but...its me, so whatev... So I haven't had health insurance for 3 years, found 2 lumpies in the girls, haven't been to the Dr. Yet, (cuz I'm freaked out & becausew no insurance), and now I try to buy insurance & I'm denied? Great... Now what am I going to do besides die from breast can...cer because I have no insurance? Seriously... Any suggestions anyone? In the 20+ responses I received, a few mwntioned I should write to you, as this one.... I thought for sure no more denials for pre-existing conditions took affect immediately upon passage of Obamacare. That doesn't mean companies aren't still trying to get away with it though. You might try the White House website and see if you find something there about how to make sure you don't get denied So..... here I write... a very scared Mom in Lenexa, KS... If you ever do actually get to read this, and have any suggestions, I can be contacted at tracigentry3@yahoo.com, or my cell is 913-378-3760...   Again, thank you for your leadership of our country, I am soooo thankful for a change!   Respectfully,   Teresa (Traci) Gentry Lenexa, Kansas

Question on Education Reform

Jun
10

Dear Mr. President,   I am a new graduate from the University of Washington with aspirations to teach the youth of America in the upcoming years.  Through my studies, I have been exposed to the discrepancies that plague our current educational system, and the various possible solutions offered by experts in the field.  This letter is to share my concerns with the current system, offer potential solutions to tackle some of the issues, and question how your education reform will provide the necessary tools for future teachers, like me, to combat the inequities of education. “Education then, beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions of men, the balance-wheel of social machinery.”-Horace Mann. Education’s purpose, in essence, is to successfully prepare America’s youth to be productive citizens in a democratic society.  Is this truly how it functions?  At present, there is a catastrophic achievement gap that haunts students of low socio-economic backgrounds and the teachers that desperately fight to keep their students from falling into the pit of failure.  The two largest causes for this is the unequal funding that resides in America and the emphasis on standardized tests as the measurement of success.  It is most blaringly apparent that children suffer from unequal funding.  Jonathon Kozol, in his book Savage Inequalities: Children in America’s Schools, sheds light upon the massive imbalance of student funding that occurs in school districts.  During the time he wrote his novel, Chicago spent “some $5500 for each student in its secondary schools” compared to the “$8500 to $9000 in each high school student in the highest-spending suburbs” (Kozol, 54).  His analysis of suburb versus city schools is clear: there is more access and opportunity to children who reside in affluent neighborhoods.  “Equity, after all, does not mean simply equal funding.  Equal funding for unequal needs is not equality” (Kozol, 54).  The current educational system rewards children who come from more affluent backgrounds with more resources, a better education, and an opportunity for success. It also leaves those most in need destined to fail, because they were born into poverty, a fact of life beyond their control. Like unequal funding, standardized tests have robbed students of their passion for knowledge and replaced it with defeat and failure to live up to its subjective expectations.  Statistics infect our media with the constant messages that the nation’s youth are failing to make the cut in knowledge.  To combat this, schools have begun “teaching to the test” in efforts to increase achievement in standards within districts poorest performing and funded schools.  Linda Perlstein discusses this model in Tested: One American School Struggle to Make the Grade and brilliantly illustrates that while students may pass the test, the test-focused curriculum stifles the creativity and intellectual development that fosters desire to learn more.  One academic strategy used within the school was to create an open board for students to place open-ended questions about the material they were learning.  While some questions were left unanswered because the teacher had no answer to give, the majority were left “because the need to get through the material seemed more pressing” (Perlstein, 77).  Tyler Heights is symbolic of the current education that is utilized in inner-city schools.  There is an incessant desire to measure success by a score, rather than the amount of knowledge the student consistently applies and their passion for knowledge.  The standardized testing model stifles the imagination of both students and teachers, and the chance that the desire to learn will begin.   Is there a solution to conquer the immense obstacles that block the path towards equal education for all of America’s youth?  One way to combat both unequal funding and the measurement of student success is by remodeling and uplifting the community, as seen through Geoffrey Canada’s Harlem Children’s Zone and his “Conveyor Belt Strategy.”  As reflected upon in Paul Tough’s Whatever It Takes, Canada believed the only way in which to propel children of the ghetto to success was to become involved with each child’s life, from their mother’s pregnancy, till they graduate high school.  While a child growing up in East Harlem has many obstacles facing him, his family has received education through Canada’s programs, like the Baby college, and would “now had the tools to stop” each child from falling behind academically (Tough, 260).  Arming not only the children, but also the parents, with knowledge and resources not offered in their community, brings each child closer and closer to closing the achievement gap that stigmatizes them.  Canada’s early intervention programs are successful.  His pre-kindergarten school “Harlem Gems” received children that scored below average on the Bracken scale but after one year the children scored significantly higher and “over three years, not a single student was considered delayed or very delayed after a year of Gems” (Tough, 207).  The children’s success and the community’s dedication toward rebuilding the future of its youth show the success that can be made if access and opportunity is provided. Along with reaching within the community and creating access, remodeling teaching to incorporate a democratic ideal, will invigorate the education system and give it, along with children, new life.  Stephanie Meier believes, in her book The Power of Their Ideas, that teaching students democratic qualities will foster intellectual and academic growth.  With a collaborative model for example, involving not only staff in educational decisions, but also the students and family creates “a larger community” formed on “mutual respect” in the name of democracy (Meier, 22).  By incorporating the students and families in the politics of education, the students are more invested in their education, and gain the skills needed to become productive in larger society.  By also teaching with compassion, Meier and her fellow teachers illustrate that by learning these qualities, your student understands “the root of both intellectual skepticism and empathy” (Meier, 63).  “Let us not be content to wait and see what will happen, but give us the determination to make the right things happen”-Horace Mann. I am not an expert of education but I do see a necessity for change.  Our society is modeled on democracy, but yet millions are robbed of the opportunity to be successful because of the circumstances from which they were born.  I do not believe each solution I have offered is the perfect model for reform.  Each has weaknesses that must be addressed.  Like the quote above however, I believe the time for action is now, and I am anxious to know and see the reforms that you plan to enact.  Thank you for your time and consideration.  Sincerely,   Desiree Robinette

this is simple

Dear Mr. President, Been working and paying taxes for over 30 years. Look, This is simple, : 1) Pull our troops out of the middle east and treat them...middle east countries, as a hostile  distributor of oil, period. The result will be "We don't want to be involved in a holy war with who ever. 2) Gulf Oil Spill, Send in the military, "you are defending americas shores". Kick the you know what, out of BP, the american public will feel that our government has power over bussiness's. 3) Healthcare, What a mess, I suggest prioritising, instead of shoving too much, down our throats at ounce. Pick a part of it that works least, and fix it good.People will be able to respond to change and provide input for future changes.   Sincerely Greg Winther, Amaerican Citizen
