SOCIAL SECURITY

Jun
07

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr President,

Okay. So I know that you have to be pretty good at your job and you are already probably aware of this, but you do realize that the "Social Security" system we have in place is falling apart, right? It is not sustainable. I am not saying that we need to privatize social security... in fact, quite the opposite (this is a terrible idea... taking public money and giving it to private companies). What I am saying is that we should have a more sustainable system. Look at it this way - people should only be able to get out what they put in. If you put in $100,000 over the course of many years - all of that money should come back to you (with interest), and, if you put in $0 you should get exactly $0 back. We can not continue to have many people who put in nothing and get anything in return. This is not right. If you want social security you should have to work for it.

I think that if people want to get social security and they have put nothing into it they should have to do something for that money each month. Whatever they can do. Lick stamps, fill out surveys, i don't know - garden! Something. There is no such thing as a free ride. Everyone should have to work for what they get.

I just thought I needed to share that.

Please make changes so that people who get SSI or SSD or and type of SS need to do something to earn that money. I think the same thing for all social and welfare programs, actually but this one is important because it is scheduled to bankrupt us the soonest.

Best Regards,
Ming Lee

Medi-Cal and SSI are not a Saftey Net

Sep
10
Dear President Barack Obama, I live on SSI and also receive Medi-Cal. I have tried to get a job and go to school. I have failed. I have put in a honest effort but just can't succeed. If my benefits are cut I don't know what will happen to me. My family can not support my medical needs: doctor visits, prescriptions, trips to the hospital and other services I desperately need. Recently 15 dollars has been cut from my 845 dollar SSI monthly checks, which now gives me 830 dollars to live on per-month, because of that I no longer have (an-extra) 180 dollar a year. One hundred and eighty dollars might not seem like a lot of money to you or the people around you but it's a lot of money to me. The low income housing I hope to get into is 526 dollars a month, which leaves me with 304 dollars a month to buy food, clothing, shoes and feminine hygiene products (thing I can not live without). I am hoping to be able to get a cat; in able to keep it I may have to give up things I need and/or want. I have no wishes for fame or more money. I wish to be able to live comfortably, a dream people wish for all over the world. A proud American, Liana P.S. I voted for you.

to help our economy

Sep

Dear Sir President, There are so many people that are on SSI (Disability)and I see them out working for cash money everyday. And also, there are people that complain with back problems to the SSI office to get it that can carry groceries up and down steep steps and carry heavy loads and claim they cannot work. I have seen this with my eyes and I am very sick of it. I almost had to die for my SSI with a brain stem tumor when all they had to do was say "my back hurts" and then they get SSI. Dear Sir, I think it would be alot more cheaper to our country to re-evaluate all the SSI cases if they have not had any major surgeries or crippling injuries in the last 5-10 years .Also, give the ones that doctors say that have back problems a desk job. I thank you very much for your time and hope you have a good day. Sincerely, A very concerned citizen

SHAME-Section 8 HOUSING

Aug
03
Mr. President, We need help here at home. We voted for a Democrat in 08. A man who swore he was going to help us. You turned on all of us. You were backed in a corner?? Bull! What happened to the 14th amendment that allows you to do what is best financially? I have been waiting. Patiently for social security checks to rise. For housing to open up. Now there is NO HOPE. I am so disappointed with my President. I voted for some other man named Obama back in 2008. The man who approved the budget cuts is not the same man he claimed to be while campaigning. He is weak. If he isn't weak, then he is a darn good actor. Being disabled, I have been on a wait list for section 8 housing.(vouchers)I worked my entire life and this is not what I planned for middle age. Being disabled. Cuts for federal programs, should NOT be cut. At all. Education as well. Thank You for all you didn't do.

Balance the budget

Jul
28
Mr. President, I believe you have done your very best to make this great nation of ours a better place to live. It is unfortunate that many seem to be stepping on your heals every-time you do something to help improve the welfare of our nation. I find this very frustrating. However, with regards to the budget there are many things that can be done in order to get a balanced budget...(And trust me I know you walked into this mess and didn't make it). But you are our leader and you are going to have to make some tough calls. I firmly believe we need to cut military and government spending by at least 40-60%. When I speak about cuts, I am not talking about the "worker bee's" the people who actually work for and serve our country, I am talking about the managers and supervisors who sit around all day in meetings pretending to work. At the very least heed the examples of companies that employ lean management skills. I am a county employee and have noticed that at every level of government Federal, state and county, we are all so top heavy...3-4 staff per supervisor...2-3 supervisors per manager.....2 managers per director. This certainly is not an efficient way to run a company or a government. Why is it that every time we have problems with our education system they cut teachers, yet we still have so many stinking administrators that make 2x the amount of teachers..it's ridiculous. In addition, I believe we should increase taxes and cut out loopholes for the wealthy ie..."job creators". And finally for the love of God, stop sending money over to countries that don't even like us, that threaten us, that harbor terrorist who attack us. Why are our troops building schools and hospitals for the Iraqui's and people of Afghanistan..when we have schools in the US that could use their assistance? Bring our troops home and let them help clean up the streets and inter-city gangs, because if you haven't noticed we have a lot of problems going on in our own country that we should be taking care of before we take care of everyone else. Don't get me wrong, I am a firm beleiver in helping others. I am blessed and believe I should be a blessing to others. However, if I only had $100.00 to buy groceries for my son an I for the week, I would put $10.00 in the offering basket and spend $90.00 on groceries. In addition to being reckless with our spending and spending more than we bring in we are also spending a disproporationate amount of money to other countries and funding this "war" rather than taking care of our own people. I understand you have a tough job..but I really believe that you are a good president and you could leave a legacy of finally getting this country on the right track. Let's balance our budget and stop spending more than we can afford. Although it's been the American way...it shouldn't be. Thanks for listening.

Social Security Check

Jul
28
Mr. President Obama Please do not hold my SS check. I am 100 % disabled as in I have no legs from the thighs up both legs double amputee. I lost my legs due to a accident at work. I was a truck driver. I got run over at the work place by another worker he drug me down the road for 300 feet before I let go of the drive shaft thinking an hoping he would straddle me an go on but instead my body got crushed from my legs down. An because of the WORK MANS COMP LAWS the government makes for the STATE OF ALABAMA I only received 200 thousand per leg ! an the driver was never investigated because of LAWS ! no witnesses ect. private property an on an on. I should have stayed on work mans compensation until I died but lawyers talk people into doing a settlement which I really did not feel right about doing that. What they do is talk you into the small settlements then you get to live on your SS for the rest of your life ! now I am really upset I should have listened to my gut an said no I will take my weekly check for the rest of my life which was 660 dollars a week. Now I live on 2600 dollars a month SS check. I wish you would know so many people in the USA are living on disibility tho that truly are not injured or hurting I see some on the tv that say OH I CANT WORK BECAUSE I AM SO DEPRESSED I NEED MY DISIBILTY an that makes me sick to my stomach. Many people get a check an they have 2 legs an 2 arms an can work somewhere but instead they get a SS CHECK this makes no sense to me. I would still work somewhere if I could. But I feel like my civil rights were taken away by this driver that ran over me an he kept working every day because no one could say who it was. HE ran over me an went on down the road. If I was able to sue the company that let this man go I could have made millions an went on with my life but 200 thousand for a whole LEG is really sickening to me. How much are your LEGS worth or your wifes legs? my husband is a truck driver still an I am home alone most the time I can care for myself but I never did get good legs that worked like the military guys do when they come home from war either. I am just a every day person who worked hard very hard for the money I made up to 42 years of age I will be 50 this year. The accident happened in 2004 an I was in the hospital for 6 months went thru 26 suguries an died 4 times on the table I should not be alive even but I am. I have many skin grafts an NO FREAKIN LEGS. I blame the system for having me on SS an the LAWS for pushing people to go on SS an not keep on with work mans comp the BIG COMPANYieS are getting off with paying people that truly get hurt badly by paying a small amount an then having the PEOPLE go on SS the rest of their lives. Someone needs to be looking into this. These big companys should be paying out much more for people that get hurt for life at work. Especially when it could have been prevented. Thanks for your time I hope you read this an I pray the SS checks do not stop or maybe I will be on the corner on a skateboard with a cup in my hand asking for change from strangers. An thanks to the horrible lawyers in America for talking people into SS is the route to go. I am so mad I could just puke about this now. Someone needs to get the DEAD BEATS off of the SS ! the people with 2 legs an 2 arms should be working somewhere I am sick to death of these lazy butts that say they can't work but they can sure walk around the mall !!!!!! Sincerly just a disabled truck driver Tumbleweed aka Rhonda Leona Little Mcguire in Jasper Alabama Many prayers an Blessings to you an your family for strength an wisdom from Alabama to ya'll.

See how they like paying for there own insurance, and get another job, instead of sponging off the people on Social Security. Sincerely, Andrew

Social Security Cuts

Medicare And Social Security cuts

Jul
22
Dear Mr. President Obama, The legislators want to cut Medicare and Social Security, this is not an option. The proper option is to cut other things. Millions of people like myself live off Social Security and depend on it to live and pay bills. If they cut Social Security, who will pay our bills, not the legislators? We also need the Medicare to pay for our doctor and hospital bills. Besides Social Security is not a tax. I have been paying into it for many years and I should be getting the full amount, not a reduction in benefits. The government has no right to touch any of our money because it is not a tax. They should be paying bills from taxes. The rich should be paying more taxes than the middle class or poor Americans. The problem is that they don’t see it, because they would be the ones that will be paying more. We Americans need to demand they pay their fair share in taxes. If they do this more money will be coming from taxes and they can pay for some of the bills. It is high time they do the right thing and leave Medicare and Social Security alone. The next thing is to get people back to work and create more jobs and that way more taxes will be coming in to pay the bills. Being able to pay the bills is the biggest problem here in our great country. At this time more people are out of work and having a very rough time of it. They have lost their homes because not having enough money. It is always been money problems in Government and hard working people. This is not what we want and it seams the legislator’s only care about themselves not us. Not too long ago the legislators voted themselves a raise, which they should not have done. We should decide if they should get one. We as Americans need to stop complaining and do something about it instead of just doing nothing but complaining among themselves. The government then will do the same thing they always do, nothing but lip service. The same ones get voted in time after time. The lack of voting is another problem in the country. It is sinful the turn out during all elections. Yes, there is more that come out to vote during Presidential times but the turn out is still disgraceful. My wife and I vote every election and we have our say so on matters that are of great importance and they do not because they never vote. I hear them when we are out how their vote does not count. Yes it does not count at Presidential election time because of the electoral vote. This is the only one in place and should be abolished. No other elections are done that way. Maybe if this is done away with maybe more would come out and vote. Another thing they say we cannot do anything about how the legislators do their work. This is not true they can send a letter or email them or call them on the phone and demand they change their ways and do the proper thing for us. You promised you would try to change Washington. It cannot be done only by you but us hard working Americans who care. Please Mr.President say something about all this on TV so people will wake up and demand what we want for our county and do it again and again till they wake up. Anita & Joseph

Fair Housing....really?

Jul
22
Hi President Obama, My name is Leanna Robertson and I am writing in regards to information on finding housing. I am disabled living on a fixed income of only $847 a month and I have been to various agencies trying to find housing for myself and my daughter and cannot find any that would accept me. I have been to my local housing authority and various low-income housing projects and I am being denied housing for incidents that have happened in 2001 and 2002. One of the denials were for an apartment I had rented and was evicted from in 2001 for non payment of rent. I was unable to pay rent because I did not have enough money to cover utilities and rent. So I started getting loans to meet rent and utilities and by food for me and my children and ended up not being able to handle it all at the time. I was told by the manager at the time that if I had brought in the past due amount in 90 days I would be able to retrieve my property and it would not be held against my credit. So I had called a few days later with a check for the full amount owed to let them know I was on my way to their offices with payment and that I was waiting on a cab, I was told by the manager of the property at that time that it was too late and that my belongings were sold to pay for the amount due to them. 90 days later a friend of my mother called to tell her that they were auctioning off my belongings....when I was told prior to that it had already been done. Well on of the maintenance men, named Rob, told me that the manager along with other maintenance personnel had entered into my apartment and took items they wanted prior to the 90 days being up. He told me the exact items they took and told me that he had taken my children's bedroom sets. He told me that he would testify or sign an affidavit if I wanted to press charges. Since i couldn't find an attorney to represent me I couldn't press charges. Then the second denial was for Terry Jones management, I was told by my local housing authority that I had three separate issues with them. I had only rented from him once. I was told by the owner himself that if I had moved out by a certain date that it would not count against me and that I would have to pay him for the stove that my sister's kids had broken by walking across it while she was babysitting for me while I was at work and for new carpeting. I hadn't paid for the two items because I was out of work, I was unable to pay rent because I had lost my job due to tribal politics at a Indian casino (I was holding a management position and not being an Indian....not to their knowledge). I had not received any papers or documents from him or the courts of any court hearings. I have rented since then and the last place I rented was while i was living in Portland,OR. I lost my job with the company I was working for because of certain circumstances surrounding the club, I actually forced them to fire me because of their bookkeeping practices that I discovered but never told anyone about, not even the owner. The manager understood because I had problems with paying my rent on time because our checks from my job kept bouncing and we would have to wait for him to pay us in cash. Sometimes that took days sometimes it took weeks. I have done everything to try to find housing and agencies I thought would, won't. I am currently living with a longtime friend who is married and have five children living in the home in a three bedroom house, my daughter and I are currently living in their den. It is cramped and there is not privacy or time to ourselves due to the constant noise. I am at my wits end and need help. I can't apply for Section 8 housing because the list is currently closed. I need help and didn't know where to turn to. I do not want to live in a shelter, there are people who are far worse off who need that space, and I am looking for long term. How is it called fair housing when I am being penalized for something in my past. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you very much for your time. Sincerely, Leanna Robertson

I still have faith. Don't let me down....

Mr. President, I realize your job is one of the most challenging there is. I voted for you and believed in you. I was a Firefighter/ Paramedic. Over the years I lost a lot of friends and family. I now have COPD, Debilitating pain from Degenerative Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. I have applied for disability 3 times and been denied. I am not asking for Medicaid. Just what I have paid in my whole life to be able to live with some form of dignity. My husband is also ill but still working. His company took away the insurance benefits two years ago. I have no insurance and have to go in front of a judge who will decide if my not being able to live a normal life or get and medical help to get any relief. Now I hear you are actually considering putting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid on the table to negotiate for the debt ceiling. There should be no negotiating to keep America the promise land. I am very discouraged. I will go to bed tonight and pray that you remember we the people voted you into office. My fear is you are going to make so many people angry with you for caving on your own values that you won't get voted in again. Then what are we left with. The GOP that want to turn this country into a policed state. Please do the right thing. I beg of you. I would write my Governor for a letter when I go to court for my disability, but considering I have Kasich there is no need to even try.. Just one more American that served to help as many as I could and now am nothing more than a burden on society...

Question on the social security cap

Jul
15
Dear Mr. President, It seems to me that the rich keep getting richer and I would like to know why there is a cap on social security. Why can't that cap be removed? That would help the economy so much and I don't agree that people that make more money than I do should have to stop paying those taxes. No one has never been able to explain that to me. All of that money could be used in numerous places and those of us that are less fortunate might not feel like the "wealthier" get yet another loop hole. EVERYONE should have to pay those taxes regardless of how much you make. Pretty sad, those benefits will probably be gone by the time I retire in 15 years and I have been putting into that all my life. Why has that law never changed?? Best Regards, Karin Riddle

Rich get Richer

Jul
13
Dear MR. President Let me start out with a big thank you . I know you have been working your tail off with no help from the republicans. Their only agenda is to derail you as president that should be against the law. They would like nothing better than to watch me and my family starve and they are not for the American people. They waste our tax dollars on the rich, instead of asking them to step up and bail out the country like the poor did in 2008.

Social Security and Medicare

Jul
07

Dear Mr President: Yes you are the president and have the power to lead our country. You are brilliant and kind. Use your intelligence and your heart. Do not back down and alter SS and Medicare. As citizens we paid into SS and medicare and it has been sustaining our spending during the whole Bush administration and beyond. Yes Medicare costs have risen, but private health care costs have risen more. Do not let the bullies, who have been the slaves of big business destroy this country. Do not let the ultra rich become richer by getting welfare from the middle class. Do not give subsidies to the oil companies who are poluting our waters. Use the money for the common people. Stress family values, thats what they always do. Ask if they want our grandmothers and grandfathers to starve while they grow richer and richer. Impose a higher tax on families making $500,000 dollars a year or more, not $250,000. You will still decrease the deficit and not put a burden on the middle class that live in New york or other expensive states. Reinstate the inheritance tax for people who inherit 3,000,000 or more. If all else fails use whatever power that you have to make changes in the budget that will give equal shares of the money to benefit all citizens, not just the rich.

Social Security And Direct Deposit

Jul

President Obama, The Social Security Administration is try to force people into doing direct deposit. Apparently if you do not have the money as a direct deposit, your check will be ten to fifteen days late - in other words you will not be able to pay your bills like gas, electricity, water, telephone and cable. What about people who do not want to have the money direct deposited? If you can help in this matter I really would appreciate it. Thank You, Betty May

Confused wanting more for this country...

Jul
02
Can you please explain why the rich get richer and they steal more from the poor? This is an honest question...I would love to hear an answer for...as I am a legal US citizen that is able to vote...and it would be great for us to understand this. This is information I have found on the internet and have found it to be true. MEDICARE PREMIUM INCREASE For those of you who are on Medicare, read the article below. It is about the monthly amount of money you are going to pay in Medicare premiums in 2011, 2012 and the huge increase you will pay in 2013. It's a short but important article. Congress will not allow an increase in the social security COLA (cost of living adjustment); however, the per person monthly Medicare insurance premium will be increased from the 2009 premium of $96.40 to $104.20 in 2012, $120.20 for the year 2013 AND increases to a wonderful $247.00 in 2014. Thank You Obamacare! Congress also gave themselves a $3,000 a month Cost of Living Adjustment! Send this to all seniors that you know. WE WILL REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER 2012 Just think a moment...cut congress and your income by 1/4 each...then congress can pay taxes, health care, gym memberships and SSI like most people do, if they want to receive it...but you always cut elderly, disabled and schools...the ones who need it most get chopped...while the rich get richer... Sorry many of us feel you are destroying America, and what our founders have created for us.

WHY????

Feb

Dear President Obama, I am 64 and have lived in Alaska for 37 years. My husband died in 1978, so I have been doing everything by myself. Have worked hard for what I have. So now that I'm on half of my husbands S.S. (781.00) a mo. you might make cuts to it. I'm trying to pay my bills and stay alive. You just can't do this. I owe 3000.00 in property taxes and can't find the money so I just might loose my home. I don't have any one to run to and get a loan. Credit is not that good, so banks won't touch me. And S.S. has not got a cost of living raise in two years. How much do you make a mo? How about you take a cut! And why don't you use some of the gold in Fort Knox to cover some of the debt.... I had a nervous breakdown and can't work. I don't want to be living in my 1987 Dodge pickup. Please stop hurting me. Patti

Unemployed and Scared

Jan

Dear Mr. President, My name is Debra A Joseph, I am one of millions that is unemployed and have been since 2009.  I was layed off and have been trying to find a job ever since.  I had to move back home with my mother after living on my own for over 25 years.  While I was looking for work I ws collecting unemployment and your extensions help ever so much and I thank you for that.  But since my unemployment ran out last september it has really been rough.  This was not a good Christmas, one of the worst that I have ever had.  Not for me but for my mother.  You see since I moved back home and was collecting unemployment I was able to help her with the expenses in the house.  My mother get SSI, Pension, but with the other expenses we are just not making it.  We have to over draft her account to pay bill but the fees kill; us.  She has not only her bill, but because we need the car and food she has now taken over my bills as well.  I have no health insurance and she made me take out insurance because she was scared that if something happen to me I could not get help.  I don't know what to do anymore.  We are about to loose our hom, because we had to take from peter to pay paul and could not pay the mortage, our lights will be cut soon.  I just want a job, and with gas prices what they are I can't afford to travel to far to work and no one in my area wants to hire me.  I am so scared not for me, but for my mother.  Every day I see the depression in her eyes, because we can't pay the bills.  Please I am begging.

Single and forgotten for quality health care.

Dear Mr. President,I am a 42 year old male. I have a serious Diabetic Condition. I can not walk or stand to long for the sores on my feet. I am continuallly breaking out with diabetic ulcers on my feet and the rest of my body. I also have diabetic nurorapathy in my feet. I have been treated for ruptured bloood vessels in my eyes because of my diabetic problem.I lost my job at ABC Rental because I could not wear the proper protective shoes that are required. My Primary Care Dr. put me out on temporary disability for 2 weeks and said that was the longest he could. When I lost my job I also lost my medical insurance. I have applied for Social Security and I am waiting for a hearing. I called to apply for medicade so that I could continue to get care for my diabetic problem. I was told if I did not have a dependent child that I did not quailfy for medicade. I get my medication through a program called PAP. If not for this program I would not have my medication. I have no home of my own. If it was not for my Mom and stepfather I would have no where to live as I have no income. For all praticial purposes I am homeless. My Mother is a 100% diable veteran and my stepfather has a small mechanic shop. They help me with my money matters as much as they can. My concern is that I have been caught in the crack. Like most single persons are. I nvere realized how hard it was for a single person without a dependent child/childern to get help for their medical condition.I have a cousin that has never worked over a year in her life and because she has dependent children she can get free medical care through medicade. Her husband does not work either. Some how my mind does not seem to want to or be able to understand how the system can not help someone like myself that has worked since they were 17 years old and worked continually through their life and done excatly what they should have done and paid social security taxes and can not get help. I am waiting for my hearing on my social security. I ask you this. "Am I as a US Citizen, who has worked and paid taxes not intitle to some sort of quality of life?" I have been stipped of my diginity and my ineipendence. The system has let me down and I would like to know why. Things need to be changed to better the system when a single male fines his self in my situation. Or a single female that has no children or can not have any children. I have no options open to me in the system the way it is now. If I were a female all I would have to do is conceive a child and I would be eligible for all the help that I needed. I was in hopes of getting medicade on a temporay bases till my social secuirty is settled. But that is not an option for me for the reasons stated above. Yes, I do medication for my diabetis but the medication my be right for me this moth and need adjusting the next month. I have even went on the computer and tried some home remidies. Like I read one where it said to tomatoe paste on you diabetic sores and that would help heal them. I did that ot no avail. Well I could go on and on to plea my case but I hope that I have gotten my feelings on this matter across.Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you on this issue.SincerlyVincent D. Ems
