Dear President Obama:
I am a 54 year old grandmother, i have worked most of my life, however, I am now on Social Security Disability. I have tried to get food stamps and medical help through Hamilton County Job and Family Services, to no avail. A year and a half ago, I was getting $200.00 in food stamps, but since social security got a raise, I now am not eligible for food stamps. On top of that, I am not eligible for medicaid. Well, I am on a spendown, which means I have to pay in over $400.00 a month, then I would get a medical card. But where will I get the extra $400.00? Then I was told that if I have bills that add up to $400.00, then I can fax them in and I will get a medical card.
That is a joke. I get an infusion every 8 weeks for the rest of my life which cost in excess of $10,000.00 each time I go. But, but the time I fax in the bill or bills and the welfare department sends me a medical card, the month is over and I have to start all over again. I get $1046.00 per month, and after I pay an overpayment back to social security, pay my rent and utilities, my car insurance, and a medical bill or two, then I have about $50.00 to live on for the rest of the month. I will never get out of this hole that I am in. So how is it fair that I can't get any help from the Welfare Department, but if I came to this country illegally, I could get benefits right away!
This makes no sense. I know that there are people out there that play the system, but I am not one of them. I have paid taxes and I vote, I am not a criminal nor have I ever been. Why can't I get any help? I thought you were going to make things better for the poor and working class. When is this going to happen? Can I get some help, please?
