Jobs for us

Sep
06
Dear Mr. President, My name is Ken Larlham. I am 59 years old and I live in Ohio - one of the harder hit areas of the country in terms of manufacturing jobs. Three years ago, after trying to fing a job in my career field for a few months with no luck, I decided to start up a roofing and construction business. I just couldn't see sitting and collecting unempoyment as long as I have two good hands and the ability to use them. It's not a large business - in fact, I'm my number one worker. It's hard work, but it keeps the bill collectors away, and it gives me the satisfaction of knowing that I'm still a productive member of our society. My reason for contacting you is to say that practically every day I get a phone call from someone who wants work - they don't want a handout, they don't want something for nothing, they want to work. And when I am busy enough, I have people working for me. These guys will work from dawn 'till the setting sun, and at the end of the day they want to know one thing - where are we working tomorrow. Mr. President, I pay the most I can afford, but I don't think its about that for these guys. They just want the same thing I want - to know that it's not beating them, that they're beating it. We focus too much on the freeloaders of society. I have friends who complain all the time about the ones living off of the hard work and taxes of us. That's a problem to be sure, but we take much larger strides in solving our country's recession by focusing instead on those guys who call me up. We need to give these people a sense of belonging and pride in accomplishment. That can only happen when they are gainfully employed - not handed a free meal ticket. I know there is too much polital posturing on how to address the issue of creating jobs, but everyone at least agrees that it is the number one issue. President Kennedy once said, "Every mom wants her son to grow up to be president one day ....... but she doesn't want him to be a politian along the way." You had to be a politian to become president - now just concentrate on being our president - our leader, who can inspire and breed confidence among your people by choosing to rise above the fray in Washington. You can tell us every day about jobs being created, about what's being done to create them, and about what we need to do to get ready for the need for more workers accross the country. Every day we listen to the complainers - we want to follow someone who is leading, not complaining. You can do this just by being the leader we elected. I'll be listening intently to your speech this week. I hope it inspires us. I hope it moves us. We all need some good old-fashined motivation. Thank you for your time, and may I leave you with one more bit of advice: Get emotional about it! So will we. Best Regards, Ken Larlham

JOB MARKET STIMULUS

Aug
21
Dear Mr. President, Let me clarify, this is not a spending proposal and it will definitely create jobs! To stimulate the job market and reverse the unemployment trend: THE SOLUTION IS TO PROVIDE A TAX REDUCTION TO EMPLOYERS (SMALL BUSINESS OR BIG CORPORATIONS) FOR EVERY EMPLOYEE THEY HIRE. The percentage or amount of tax reduction can be further analyzed and fine-tuned. This stimulus should be applied to states that have above-average unemployment numbers. This tax reduction is not permanent and is given for a couple of years until the unemployment picture improves. Using this method of stimulus gets the private sector involved by providing incentives to hire. There is no additional spending. The money our government currently spends on paying unemployment claims will be paid to employers as an incentive if they have a net gain in employees from one year to the next. This is a win-win situation. However, please don’t complicate the issue, make it simple and straight forward without adding “difficult to understand” clauses or exceptions. I believe my proposal warrants your serious consideration. Regards, Anna Shum Concerned Citizen

The heartbreak of being 56 and unemployed

Aug
28
Mr. President..... I have never written a president and never asked for anything.  I am a 56 year old female from Texas and I have been in the working field from the time I was 17 years old until June 2008, when my place of employment for over 10 years closed their office.  I had been in the same field (motion picture industry (distribution) ) for 24 years.  I loved my job. I have wonderful letters of recommendation from my bosses, co-workers and customers that I dealt with.  I never thought that I would not be able to find a job.  I began looking steadily right after we closed, and tried not to let it get to me at first.  I have had many interviews, and a few I really thought I would be considered for the job because of my qualifications.  I do not ask for the same amount of money that I was making.  I know that I have to start all over.  But now....it is so painful that it is hard to explain.  I have no income since my unemployment has run out.  My husband's hours have been cut also so that does not help the issue.  I am devasated and depressed.  I even applied for a hostess job at a restaurant which paid minimum wage.  The manager told me that he didn't think this is what I was looking for as the hostesses had to stand for 4 hours or more sometimes.  A little discrimatory in my opinion.  I may be 56 but think I could stand for longer than some younger employes.  Can you help us?  Would you help us?  After our office closed, in June of 2009, I lost my Dad and my Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers.  Through all of this, I have never stopped looking for employment.  I apply at least to 5 companies a day online and have been to several.  I am getting ready to lose everything.  I want to work.  I miss it.  I love being around people.....but no one seems interested in hiring me.  Any suggestions.  Can you help me?

My Daughter Needs a Job

Aug
21

Dear President Obama, I have been supporting my daughter for the past 3 yrs. and can no longer do so.  She is a nurse that cannot find a job.  When she was just out of nursing school, she took a job with a Hospital in Midland Texas.  I am sure you have heard the saying "----eat their young".  This happended to my daughter on her first job.  Her license was taken away.  This was due to  nurses who happened not to like her, or the way she looked.  Since that time, she has struggled.  She is cleaning homes for a living, has no car, and I can no longer pay her rent, utilities, food, etc.  PLEASE help my daughter find a job.  She has taken all the necessary courses and worked hard to have her license reinstated in order to resume her career.  No one give her the oppertunity.  She has suffered from deep drepression, fatigue,  in the past, all because she cannot find employment in the field she so looked forward to working in the rest of her life.  She is a wonderful person, and her patients have loved her. She has so much to offer. Can someone with your admistration please contact her and help her find a job.  Within a month, I am afraid she will be homeless and it is killing me.  Please contact her at the following address: Sarah K. Lieberenz, 2649 Hazel Court, Denver Colorado  80211, her phone number is 303-906-9704. While I am typing this e-mail letter, I am watching the Nightly News.  I see you are vacationing with your lovely daughters, while I sit here worried about my daughter becoming homeless.  She just wants a job as a nurse.  She made a couple of mistakes that should have not had the consequences they did.  PLEASE, we need your help. Sincerely, Anita L. Wood Read more about My Daughter Needs a Job
