The troops in Kuwait

Dear Mr. President,

My daughter, Private Amber, is a member of the 1204th ASB, A. Company that is currently in Kuwait. Her unit has been there for a few weeks now, which included the holidays. Her spirits are down, which is why I am writing to you. There were no turkey dinners or festivities during the holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve for these men and women. It's hard enough to be so far from home during the holidays, but then to be forgotten by your country during the holidays just makes it that much worse. The media covered the troops that were able to come home and surprise their families, but made no mention of the many units that are still in Kuwait on Standy with no mission; essentially, just killing time until their tour of duty is over.

What I am hoping, Mr. President, is that you will find it in your heart and in your schedule, to somehow arrange something, anything, to lift their spirits, and help them to remember that we do appreciate their service, and that they are not forgotten while they wait patiently to come home.

Sincerely, A loving mother

Carolyn
