Discrimination Against Workers Over 50

May
17

Dear President Barack Obama,

Please address discrimination against older workers! At the age of 57 I have found that I am too old to work, and too young to retire. My retirement fund has been hit twice, once with 9/11 and then again with the Great Recession. Please consider lowering taxes on Social Security and retirement withdraws to compensate for all the money we boomers have lost. Something has to be done. How will we survive?

Respectfully,

Caught in the Middle

May
10

Dear President Barack Obama:

I am 53 years old and disable since 2008 due to breast cancer. I've worked all my life payed my taxes and now I am unable to work due to other health problems. My husband was a Marine who served this country for 18 years very proudly, it was his life. We had three children together. His name was Louis. I lost him in 2007 due to massive lung cancer which he developed during his time in the services. Then I was diagnosed with cancer . I applied for disablity and was denied four times because of my age. I am not 62, the age required to receive benefits. I am unemployed. I have no medical because I have no small babies, so I don't qualify for aid to help me pay for my medication which cost's about 400.00 a month which I must take for five years.

No means of income to help me live. It's been really hard during these hard economy times. I don't understand how social security can deny me help. If I can go to work I would. I also have a broken rib that can't be healed so it's hard for me to do the simple task to make my day. I've had lawyers on this since 2008 and that didn't help me at all so it's been really hard to except the way Social Security Administration regulations work.

I am stuck in the middle with no were to turn for help. I'm afraid that I may not see 62 years old. I'm alone, scared with no places to call my own and money to live a normal life. All I need is to get some of what I've pay on all my life for working and paying taxes and medical which now they are denying me.

PLEASE HELP ME? What can I do? I feel like I have no purpose, as if I lived for whom? I worry about my children which are grown but how can I assure them that they wouldn't have to go begging to bury me because I can't even afford a simple life Insurances.

I live in California. My kids live in North Carolina and the youngest live in Pennsylvania. All these things matters are not good for my health. I am in need of the government's help to be able to exist. Today you are visiting George Clooney. I wish I can meet you in person. I believe in you as leader for our county because you are for the people, a TRUE leader with a heart and understanding of our civil rights to live comfortably because we work so hard all our lives. I pray you get another term cause the battle has only just started. Our rights and our lives are mostly judged by how we chose to be happy or limited by age, health and so on. Again I hope to hear from you in respond to my concern.

Thank You.

Sincerely,
Hopelessly lost with no which way to go. Iris. Read more about Caught in the Middle

My Dad Denied SSI and Social Security with a Terminal Illness

May
01

Dear President Barack Obama,

This is so annoying to think my father who has a terminal illness and needs a transplant right away can't even get social security.

My father has been a hard worker all his life and even though he needs a liver transplant he has never been a drinker. He has worked all his life–two jobs–and has never gotten any government help. And, now that he is not working and needs the help they denied him.

My question is do you have to be a Fu@@ing drug addict to get medicaid in this country or a killer of another human being to get peoples' donations?

It is truly unjust for the good people who work their asses off. We just want him to get a good medical treatment and get on a transplant list the doctors said that without medicaid it be impossible, but we won't give up. The social security system needs to be fixed–or stop taking our money.

Sincerely,

MFRS

How Social Security earned income would really benefit young adults as well as adults and seniors that have worked hard for many years.

Apr

My name is Lynda. I am a 29 years old Haitian American from Homestead Florida that have been working since the age of 15 years old . I understand many years ago by law we were able to receive our social security income at the age of 55 years old, now I understand that the age has change to 65 years old. I personally feel how economy has change, they're many people living unemployed.

It would be a great blessing if we could cash out on our earned social security income that we work hard for. I understand the time frame on when a person will receive their income, that they work hard for in small lump sums is when their 65 years old, but the truth be told in these days not everyone lives to see 65 years old.

Sir Barack Obama I pray that you would grant this blessing so that not only me but the many others that our trying to save to purchase a home , a vehicle or even a business. This would be a big boost . We aren't asking for a hand out, but we would love to be able to cash out, on our social security earned income. Medicare and Social Security

Mar
23

Dear President Obama,

just a fact,  Social Security and Medicare are paid every time we get a paycheck, I realize they are used for everything now.

What if we would have put that money in a plain old Certificate of Deposit in the 1970's?  A nice nest egg for retirement (not AN ENTiTLEMENT).     The government has used this money for so many folks who never were entitled to it.       Believe me, I LIKE immigrants, my ancesters were but they did the requrements to become  citizens.

I do not agree that ILLEGAL(  which means ("AGAINST THE LAW") immigrants should be taking  medicaid (which is actually our medicare, our social security) and taxes. God help the poor American citizens that are living on the streets and all of us who are being ruthlessly robbed by the very Leaders  who are REALLY our public servants.      I never would have believed our leaders would sell their soul to be re-elected   ( save unpopular laws so that they would become effective after the 2012 election).

If I went to jail for  say for 3 DUI ARRESTS, I don't think everyone would be scrambling to treat me to all entitlements, just because I did something AGAINST THE LAW, (ILLEGAL).

GOD BLESS THE U.S.A., One Nation under God!

Income Tax for Widows

Mar
22

Dear Mr. President:

I am a widow who will turn 80 in September 9th 2012.   I still am healthy and live in my own home with 3 little Maltese.

I live on my Social Security , A pension  from my own work from Dallas County, and a part of my late husbands pension

that he left me so I would be able to live at home.   I am very comfortable but it takes all my income to keep everything going.

Today I recieved my Income tax return and learned that I am not a Head of Household or a widow 79 years old but a single

person and must pay around three thousand dollars more in taxes  (that I do not have) because I am single.  It seems

my only help in this matter is to remarry which I have no intension of doing.  Something must be done about this situation.

The Tax Code must be changed to make a widow a Head of Household so we can survive on our own.  I loved my Presbyterian Clergyman husband very much and cherish my memories in my home very much and at this rate I

wil owe taxes when I die.  Please help me.

Sincerely

Eunice

Farmers Branch, Texas (Dallas)

Social Security Misused

Mar
19

President Obama,

You know where we could save on social security benefits? -- did you know anyone collecting social security that has a child or children under the age of 18 years receives a check for each of them until they reach 18, regardless of what the income of the social security recipient is.  Is this fair?  I know of people in very good financial situations that don't need each child to receive their individual check and other people who are in drastic financial situations.  I found out about this through a friend.  Shouldn't this be based on individual need and not a generalized thing for anyone?

Not many people at all know about this.  This surely could save some money! Read more about Social Security Misused

SSI-Medicare Denial

Feb
23

Good Morning Mr. President

I am writing to you because recently I was called into the Social Security Office for reveiwal of my SSI benifits and recently recieved a letter telling me I have been denied benifits.  I worked all my life and never took advantage of any local or federal programs, I can not work because of my medical condition and am in need of medical assistance.  I was recieving an SSI check of $600.00 dollars which through out the past five years has be lowered annual as low as 150.00 per month, which is ok I can live with that because I live with my elderly parents which I help on a daily basis, but my Medicaid is very important to me.  I have submitted an application for reconsideration and am hoping that at least my medical assistance will be restore.  I have always believed in you Sr. and in your ideas and your strong will to carry them out, I am just asking if there is any other solution or program that may assist me with my medical needs.  I will not take anymore of your time, I wish you luck in the upcoming election, God bless you and your family.

Respectfully yours,

Eliseo

Educators and social security

Feb
10

Dear Sir,

I too have taught in Texas and am now informed that I will be unable to collect my husband's social security even upon his death.  Had I known this 40 years ago I probably would have chosen another line of work.  It is a shame that teachers in general are paid very poorly, and then you stack these other penalties on their retirement.

This really is a travesty.
