Dear President Obama,
Let me start by saying that I am a life-long Democrat and proud to be a supporter of you as our President.
I do not normally write letters like this, nor am I so naive as to think you will read this directly.
However, I take pen to hand to urge you as our President (and a fellow Christian) not to compromise our Constitutional rights to free expression of our faith and beliefs (i.e., crosses, stars, peace symbols or whatever) under the guise of a non-existent "right" atheists seem to think they have to be free from exposure to any religious expression that apparently offends them.
The Constitution does not give them - or anyone else - any such "right" of public censorship or freedom from exposure to free expression of religious beliefs.
The right is freedom of expression (i.e., free speech) not freedom from expression!
I daily have to be exposed to all kinds of things I don't agree with (as we all do) but I recognize that I do not have the right to silence others.
Freedom of public free speech and religious expression are absolutely critical to our free and democratic society - and many of our best and bravest have given their lives to preserve this fundamental right.
Therefore, I am urging you to put a stop to the never-ending series of efforts by atheists to remove crosses, manger scenes and other religious symbols from public places - including our honored military cemeteries; whose fallen and their families were entitled to erect and maintain such symbols in their sacred memories.
If I have to tolerate listening to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ's name used every day on television, radio and in movies as a profanity, I think my brother and sister atheists should be able to "tolerate" seeing a cross now and then.
The only thing that seems to be "intolerable" these days is to be a devout Christian and to express our Christian convictions publicly.
I look forward to supporting your re-election, and encourage you to keep up the good work for this nation, but to please not compromise on this critical Constitutional right of all Americans.
