President Obama,
I am a retired special education teacher. In 1990 I returned to school to become a teacher. I was widowed when my daughter was 3 years old, and collected SS for myself and her. I had great expectations for both of us. I wanted to be able to help her through college. In order to accomplish this I went back to school and in 1996 received my masters in Special Education, in order to accomplish this I took student loans, worked in the school system as a school aide and then a paraprofessional, and raised my child.
When my daughter was old enough I once again took student loans to help her through college. She then went for her masters and became a social worker. She has worked in various jobs including addiction services, WTC first responders. She is now holding down 3 jobs, the WTC job, the visiting nurses and working with early elementary students in a charter school and is trying to establish her own office. The point is we are both still paying off student loans and it makes no sense, if you want people to put money back into the economy you cant expect people to continue paying these monthly payments (mine 283.00 and hers 400.00) and live a life that is not a constant struggle.
I am now retired and receive a pension and Social Security. Does anyone out there have an answer to how student loans can be forgiven? Mr. President do you?
Respectfully yours,
Never out of debt!
