Good Evening,
I had sent the letter below a few months ago. I want to update this request because Linda has been failing and is now in hospice. If there is any chance that she can hear from the White House, I know that it would give her great comfort and peace. She has been a trooper through her ordeal and President Obama is her hero..........
Dear Mr. President,
I am writing to you with a simple request. My partner’s sister, Linda and her husband Ray were one of the “mighty” volunteers who worked tirelessly for your 2008 “successful” Ohio campaign. Their support and admiration for you is second to none and I know that their efforts, along with their fellow volunteers made a difference. Well, Linda is now fighting the battle of her life. She was diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago which has now spread to her brain. Her optimism and conviction to fight this enemy is as strong as it was to fight for you. She approaches her illness with tenacity, humor and a very positive attitude, and she still has the strength to continue her support for you. It is my great hope that in 2012 she will be on the front lines as one of you volunteers again. We need her there along with her husband.
My request is if someone from your office could reach out to Linda and give her some encouragement to continue her fight. I certainly understand the pressures of your work and I know that there is not enough time in the day to address the many needs of your citizens. However, I also know that you believe in community and that your volunteers represent the backbone of your campaign success. Hearing from the White House would be perhaps Linda’s most powerful medicine and would affirm what she already believes about you.
Thank you for your leadership. Many citizens draw strength from you, and I know that Linda is one of those who gives it back.
Regards,
Marion
