My Grandparents - Love, Alzheimer's, and support for Obama

Dear Barack and Michelle Obama,

This is a touching story about the most active, elderly Obama supporters - my grandparents. Please take a moment to tune in; it would make my 84-year-old politically active grandfather incredibly happy.

This article and video that came out on Valentines Day 2012 in the Chicago Tribune is about my grandparents and their love for each other after 63 years of marriage, 8 of which have been faced with Alzheimer’s disease.

My grandfather has been among the most dedicated supporters of the Obamas since the days of Barack’s work in Chicago.  He canvassed his town Oak Park tirelessly (and lovingly) meeting and helping neighbors (especially the elderly neighbors) understand how politics affect them, the need for change, and what they could do to take part.  He didn’t stop there.

My grandparents, both in their mid 80’s, continue to travel for business and to visit their children and grandchildren all over the U.S. and they remain as politically active as ever and are still very strong Obama supporters.

My grandfather has a memorable voice and has the ability to reach people in a very honest and genuine manor.  I’m sure it’s because he comes from a very loving and supportive place with my grandmother keeping him strong even with her Alzheimer’s.  They both give so much to their community, their church, their nine children, and grandchildren and growing number of great grand children.

He would love to meet Barack Obama, shake his hand, have lunch and talk about all he’s learned about Alzheimer’s, his love for family, and his social and political involvement as the years tick on.

What can we do to make this happen?

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Melissa
