Finding a job

I really do not know how to go about this !! been looking for work for over a yr now, was called for possible interview was told to call back next day to see about job. Was told b a temp agency from monster.com job site that was not able for interview due to being out of work for to long. I have over 7yrs experience in the field they were looking for, go figure. I could sit here and cry can not even get a part time job at the local grocery store. what is going on with the work field. was also told by person to go and volunteer at a doctors office to keep my skills sharp !!! why should I work for someone for free like a medical office. At my witts end :(
