Jobs
Dear Mr. President,I still can't find a job and I have a B.A and M.S. I've done two internships-one domestic and one overseas, gained numerous certificates, and built up an impressive resume while I was an undergrad. However, I'm competing against those who have had real career jobs over the last 5-10 years, but have been laid off due to this economy. I'm told by my career counselor to consider another internship. How am I going to pay rent in January?
Why are we continuing to spend 15Billion/month on a war where the only victory is morality and that is questionable. I heard that you are allocating 40 Billion to create public service jobs: That's less than three months of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq and whereever our troops are now. Imagine if you didn't extend the fighting for another 12-18 months-how many jobs could we create here at home then?
I'm not disillusioned, like many who voted for you, I see where our country's last leader handed you a hole. We all knew what you were getting into. My question is why are you continuing to dig? In the last election, I was ready to join the PEACE Corps instead of getting my MS if you, sir, weren't elected our next president. Perhaps if I joined the PEACE Corps, I'd have student loan assistance for my roughly $100,000 in debt. Did you know that if I, having my Master's degree, get a job earning $50,000 per year, and set aside 1/4 of what I make to repay my student loans: It'll take me more than 10 years to pay back the money that I borrowed so that I could get my degree? Do you know they are still telling kids in high school that if you get a Bachelor's degree you can be whatever you want?
If you get nothing else from my letter, sir, keep this in mind:What are we going to do when job competition explodes with this year's graduating class and we are too busy spending money on a moral victory to help stimulate our economy back home.
Sincerely,
Well, my name wouldn't make a difference anyway.
