An American Messiah Complex

By admin - Posted on 26 November 2008

Dear Mr. President-Elect, First of all, I must say how impressed I am that you wanted this job so badly. You must either be unconditionally dedicated to this country, or slightly mentally unstable. Undoubtedly, this is one of the worst times in our nation’s short history to seek out this particular office; as President-elect, you are facing two wars that are hugely unpopular both domestically and abroad, the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and following a President who has turned our nation into an international joke. But none of this will come as news to you. A significant portion of the country believes you are pretty much the Messiah. Another portion honestly believes you are an Islamic socialist bent on destroying America, and that your election as commander in chief is “a sin against the Lord” (to quote a church billboard in Kansas). No election in modern American politics has been so polarizing, and no president-elect has inspired such reverence. But with this reverence comes the let-down that will inevitably follow. Because even though you yourself have said that the American people are “not expecting miracles,” I think they are. They elected you as the change we need, which they believe is someone who can wave a magic wand and make all of their problems go away. Anything less will be disappointing. With each attempt at appeasement you make with one group of our extremely divided country, another group will be alienated. You won’t be able to keep every promise you made on the long campaign trail; some will have to be postponed, some eliminated altogether. You know this. The politicians in Washington certainly know this, but that won’t keep a lot of them from deriding you for not keeping your promises when it’s politically advantageous for them to take shots at you. It’s inevitable that the American people will be disappointed in you; they elected a Messiah, and your humanity is going to be unsatisfactory. Your presidency will inevitably be a very steep uphill battle. But one thing in particular gives me hope: when you were elected, people around the world did not protest or burn American flags in the streets. They danced. When in your lifetime can you remember the entire world almost unanimously celebrating something the United States did? There is a lot more change this country needs, but that is a monumental first step in the right direction. Good luck, Mr. President—you’re going to need it. And for what it’s worth, you have my support. Best, EB

We americans dont have a Messiah complex.   We are predestinated to be the way in which christic tendencies will first express.  We are a brotherly people, highly idealistic, with a profound capacity for self-sacrifice.   Mr. Obama is not mentally unstable.  He is a more than brilliant mind, only comparable with FDR, JFK, MLK.  Just look at the way he corrected the economic crisis in short time.  It could be comparable or even worse than that of the thirties.  He accessed to Presidency after a long battle, and without the help of big corporations, only with little sums that many people, not affluent, send him.  His economic backgrounds were much weaker than those of JFK .  But his life experience was very rich, and his mother motivated him in a proservice attitude.  He is totally wright in appealling directly to the american public in search of backing for health reform.  He will succeed.

I guess some Americans still have their blinders on here.  I am still waiting for Mr. President Obama to, as you say, SUCCEED!  Campaigning is a lot easier than actually doing!  And I will admit that Mr. Obama is a campaigning genius!  But, as the results come in, the proof is in the pudding!  Everyone who ran for President was very aware of the state of this country.  The only reason ANYONE wants to be President (or any other political leader for that matter) is for the POWER!  They already HAVE THE MONEY!  The way they get into office is by schmoozing the ACTORS, SINGING STARS, AND SPORTS STARS, and Oh, let's not forget BIG BUSINESS (After all, why do you think those theives were all bailed-out!).  Money begets Money!  This country's tax-payers are all withering away, but all of our Government Officials, Actors, Musicians, Sports Stars, and Bankers, are still making SO MUCH MONEY IT MAKES YOUR HEAD SPIN!  Thus, they really don't care about our plight!  I will vote one more time come November.  All Incumbents must be voted out.  It does not matter which party they represent.  They have all done a less than satisfactory job, and they have left way too many Middle-Class Americans flapping in the wind.  They just don't care.  The two vacations they took before taking care of business speaks this LOUD AND CLEAR to all of us.  We must CLEAN HOUSE!  If they want to work for "We The People", they have to FINISH THE JOB BEFORE TAKING THE YAUGHTS OUT!  Happy 4th of July everyone!  Happy Birthday to America!  What's left of it!

Good Day. If one sticks too rigidly to one's principles, one would hardly see anybody. Help me! I can not find sites on the: Abc helps for kids. I found only this - art helps kids. This will stick, but you forever wo maybe avoid a musical behavior, helps kids. The police back depends her advisory; to make her drop to christ, helps kids. With best wishes , Lexine from Ethiopia.

Well it's been nearly eighteen (18) months now, so, i was wondering: How do you think the-mans doing? i guess it's obvious you were right when you said: He is not The Messiah...but you could be wrong if you believe He shall not make His appearance durring this-Presidenticy. Believe/Me, I should know.
